We will take a look at the art and history of Native American jewelry. Dr. Kelly Hays-Gilpin, Chair of Anthropology at the Museum of Arizona and Professor Emerita of Anthropology at Northern Arizona University, will focus on the regional history and development of Native American jewelry. She will discuss the Museum’s resources and the upcoming exhibition on the use of color in the jewelry, highlighting turquoise. Patty Topel, an owner of Kachina House, one of Sedona’s top indigenous people’s arts and crafts stores, will talk about how Native American jewelry has evolved, the impact of tourism on jewelry development like Fred Harvey, and modern trends and developments.
