Success Stories

Since the inception of the Helen Wolfe Scholarship program in 2007, The Sedona Women have helped 61 recipients with more than $198,000 in total scholarship funding! Scholarship recipients have studied nursing, counseling, teaching, viticulture, culinary arts, advanced canine training, personal training, cosmetic laser technology, cosmetology, speech-language pathology, library and information studies, massage therapy and more.

Helen Wolfe Scholarship recipients are women in our local community, striving to better themselves. Many go on to obtain employment right here in the Verde Valley area. Two of our recent successful recipients are graduates of the nursing program at Yavapai College. Their success stories are reflected below.

*************************************************************************************

“I did receive a job offer following graduation. I am currently working as a Nurse Resident (which means recently graduated nurse) in the Emergency Room at Verde Valley Medical Center. I am currently working nights, which works well for my family’s schedule. I completed the orientation phase of the Nurse Residency program and am practicing myself. I love my new role! I love the ever-changing environment and the teamwork from my fellow coworkers. Thank you all for your support!”

*************************************************************************************

“I just wanted to give a quick update to all of you that have played a part in the joy that my life is filled with now that I am a nurse! After graduating in December and passing the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Exam) at the end of January, I flooded the job market with resumes to no avail! I went to dozens of interviews and follow-up interviews and was met repeatedly with the need for experience. You can imagine the frustration but by being patient and persevering through the funk that was my job search I was finally able to find the perfect job!

I am the Circulating Nurse in the operating rooms at Southwest Eye Center in Cottonwood and at Barnet-Delaney Perkins Eye Center in Sedona. I also work in pre-op, post-op and laser, but my happiness lies in the controlled chaos that is found in the OR. I assist with cataract and retina surgeries, and I absolutely love it! I have learned a million new things and my confidence has grown immensely.

I am incredibly grateful for the help that all of you have so generously provided me, and I will forever be indebted to you for giving me the opportunity to find my happiness.”
