Celebration of Women’s Achievements in 250 Years of U.S. History

To introduce our 2026–2027 season, and celebrate America250, The Sedona Women are excited to present a compendium of significant accomplishments achieved by women through U.S. history that have pioneered the advancement of our nation. 

Meri Thomason, long-time member and past president of TSW, has coordinated a program following the achievements of women from the birth of our nation to women who have broken gender barriers and have fought for our country since 1776, from women who have held challenging professional positions in government to women who have contributed to significant advancements in science and spaceflight.

Prominent historical figures include:

• Elizabeth Griscom, the maker of our nation’s first flag
• Margaret Corbin and Debra Sampson, disguised soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War
• Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson, brilliant mathematicians who made crucial contributions to the future of spaceflight
• Mum Bett, an enslaved African American woman, who successfully sued for her freedom after nearly 30 years of forced labor
• Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States for 27 years
• Jeannette Rankin, an American politician and women's rights advocate, who was the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress in 1916

TSW members should arrive between 9:30am and 9:50am. The general public will be admitted at 9:50am, space permitting. If you arrive after 9:50am, you are not guaranteed admittance.
